Doing what we need to do to SUCCEED

So, as I sit here changing the background of my blog....a lot.....trying to make it seem like a theatre person's blog...I realized that this IS the life of a theatre person. Our lives are always changing.

Whether it be a character, show, down time(even if its non-existent in our lives), or tech week, our lives don't stop. We are fast pace movers, we never stop for anything. We live our lives just like our characters do.We change ourselves so we can get to know how our characters live or to see how THEY view the world. We make ourselves different just to see how people would treat our characters in real life.

Yes, it may seem weird to someone who doesn't understand, but that's how our lives go. We don't look for other people's opinions about how we live our lives. They like to think of theatre people as those weird people who walk around doing weird things, but most of the time you see us while we are preparing for a show or preparing for an audition.

But what about the football players? They do weird things too while they are getting ready for a big game. Or the baseball players, or basketball players, choir singers, band members. They all do weird things to get ready for a performance or game, but because people in theatre talk to trees, or walk around with limps, or talk in different accents we are labeled as the weird ones.

This is why we don't normally see theatre kids hanging around with people other than theatre kids. They don't want to live their life being ridiculed by other people because of the thing they love to do....ACT. They love to portray other  people, show people how they perceive the story in their OWN way. We don't want to let what people say ruin our lives, ruin what we love to do, so we just don't hang around them. We're doing what we need to do to succeed.

And that ladies and gentlemen is the true life of a theatre kid. We may change somethings but we are still us. Yes some of us have outside friends, but we don't hang out with them as much as we hang out with the other theatre geeks. And we love them. (:
